Durchsfenster -The         February Program       2003

In Berlin-Friedrichshain there is a small Cinema with the name 'Durchsfenster'. The entrance and exit is actually a window. The reason for this is not a concept or an ideal, but practical: the door is not on the street side, but in the building. To protect the residents of the building against the noise of the visitors, the employees of the cinema have decided to use a window on the street side as entrance and exit.

The cinema is housed in a former squat and shows a different film every day in the evening. The cinema is organised and run by volunteers, mostly film lovers. The cinema is an important cultural and social meeting point in Friedrichshain where a wide range of films is shown: from so-called blockbusters to the smallest projects by film students. Sometimes filmmakers and/or directors themselves are present, who can explain their work to the audience and answer their questions. And of course, there is always the opportunity for everyone to talk about the films and everything else before and after the viewing.

Every month a program is released in which a different film is shown every day in the evening. The staff ensure a perfectly running film evening. They choose the film that is shown, provide the guests with drinks and refreshments and provide additional information about the film.
